Cookie policy
[to confirm: draft] Draft of 23 October 2026, written to the EU ePrivacy Directive and the GDPR. Before publication the text is checked by a lawyer. The Dutch version prevails; this translation is for convenience.
The rule
EU law (article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC) only allows information to be stored on, or read from, your device with your consent, unless it is strictly necessary for a service you asked for. The rule applies to cookies and equally to local storage and similar techniques. Each EU country has written it into its own law, for example the Netherlands in article 11.7a of the Telecommunications Act, Germany in section 25 of the TDDDG, France in article 82 of the Loi Informatique et Libertés, Spain in article 22.2 of the LSSI and Italy in article 122 of the Codice privacy.
The website
This website (www.sevenhillssoftware.nl) uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device. There are no analytics, advertising, tracking pixels, embedded videos or social-media buttons, and the fonts come from our own server. That is why there is no cookie banner.
The Mealbooks app
The app sets no cookies either. To work, it keeps a few items in your browser’s local storage (a small storage space on your device that only the Mealbooks address can read). Nothing is used for advertising, analytics or tracking, and nothing is shared with others, except the device identifier for HMRC below, which goes only to HMRC.
| What is stored | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
Sign-in token (bms-auth-token) and your account details for the screen (bms-auth-user) |
To keep you signed in | Until you sign out or the session ends |
Language (bms-language) |
The app language you chose in Settings | Until you change it or clear it |
Light or dark mode (theme) and colour style (bms-colour-style) |
Your display choices | Until you change them or clear them |
A default Business Assistant question, your own product categories (business-ai-default-question, bms-product-categories) |
Choices you made in the app | Until you change them or clear them |
“Add to Home Screen” tip closed (bms-ios-install-tip-dismissed) |
So the tip is not shown again (iPhone and iPad) | Until you clear it |
Closed notices (bms-dismissed-announcements) |
So a notice you closed does not come back | Until the notice ends or you clear it |
Device identifier for HMRC (bms-hmrc-device-id), only for companies in the United Kingdom |
The fraud prevention rules of HMRC, the UK tax authority, for Making Tax Digital require software to send a fixed identifier of your device with each VAT action; it is stored the first time you fetch your VAT periods from HMRC or send a VAT return to HMRC, and goes only to HMRC | Until you clear it |
Last open tab (bms-active-tab, bms-haccp-tab, session storage) |
To return to the same screen after a reload | Until you close the browser tab |
The installable app
If you install Mealbooks on your home screen, the browser keeps a service worker with a copy of the app’s own files (program code, icons and an “offline” page), so the app starts quickly and shows a clear message without internet. It holds no personal data: your business data is always fetched fresh from our server and never stored in that copy.
Other sites you go to from the app
When you pay for your subscription you go to Mollie’s payment page; a route can be opened in Google Maps, and an invoice can be sent through WhatsApp. Those services have their own cookie and privacy policies.
Consent
Everything the app stores is strictly necessary for the service you asked for: signing in, or remembering a choice you made yourself. The device identifier for HMRC is strictly necessary in the same way: it is stored only when you use the connection to HMRC yourself, and HMRC’s rules require it for that connection. That is why no consent is asked. If we ever add other cookies, analytics or similar techniques, we will update this page first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
Clearing it
- Sign out in Mealbooks: the sign-in token and account details are removed.
- To remove everything, clear the site data for the Mealbooks address in your browser’s settings (usually under Privacy or Site settings). On a phone you can also remove the installed app from your home screen.
